About Genetix

R&D Production Software Biology

Genetix proven and continuing innovative ability has enabled us to develop a family of systems delivering step changes in the identification and isolation of, for example, therapeutic protein producing cells. Through the acquisition of Applied Imaging Corporation, Genetix now offers the latest technologies for cell screening and selection, genetic testing and cancer pathology, protein science, microarraying, cell and liquid dispensing and a host of related reagents and consumables.

Genetix capabilities include:

  • Imaging and isolating cells, DNA and proteins
  • Automation-picking and placing robotics
  • Reagents and consumables
  • Dedicated software

Our head office is in New Milton on the south coast of England, the site of our main research and manufacturing facility, we also have offices in San Jose, California, Boston, Massachusetts, Munich, Germany and Newcastle upon Tyne in the North of England.

We currently employ a total of 185 staff within R and D, manufacturing, sales, marketing and customer support. Our R&D teams consist of hardware, electronics, biology and software developers. We do not sub-contract our R&D and we pride ourselves on our ability to develop and support novel and unique applications. The Genetix team brings together a wealth of expertise required for the development of high quality scientific systems and accessories. Core skills at Genetix include mechanical and electronic design, microfluidics, optics, bioinformatics, molecular biology and polymer design. This fusions of diverse skills combine to ensure that Genetix produces a range of innovative products for scientists worldwide

Genetix was established in 1991,by Mark Reid, its current Chief Executive, when the worlds first automated colony picker went into production; this became the benchmark and the Q-Bot set the quality standard in our industry. Around the same time Genetix also designed the first 384 well plate which quadrupled productivity and hence the “Q” became a company identifier in many of our products.

As genome research expanded rapidly, Genetix retained its pivotal position by developing and launching innovative products to address the demand for increased speed and faster output. The Genetix QBot and QPix colony picking systems were the workhorses behind both the human and rice genome sequencing projects published in 2001 and 2002 respectively.

By evolving to meet market needs, Genetix has achieved excellent growth both in turnover and profits and in November 2000 the Company completed a highly successful listing on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
